Therapy for High Functioning Anxiety

Perfectionism / Stress / Overwhelm/ Burnout

High functioning anxiety is not an officially defined medical diagnosis, but it can affect your quality of life making it difficult for you to feel balanced.

…a little clinical jargon:

Published by the American Psychiatric Association (APA), the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), is a handbook used by clinicians and other mental health providers to diagnose mental disorders. To be officially diagnosed with anxiety one needs to meet criteria according to the DSM, these symptoms can include feeling anxious and worried more days than not for at least 6 months, and experiencing other symptoms such as, restlessness, irritability, feeling muscle tension, and difficulty sleeping. These issues need to cause significant impairments in your day-to-day functioning, meaning it is affecting your work, family, and relationships.

If you are experiencing high functioning anxiety you may appear to be managing life well, you seem put together, and your work, family, and relationships do not appear to be affected.

On the outside your anxiety looks positive.  Others might not know you are struggling because you are an organizer, a high achiever, detail-oriented, helpful, outwardly calm and collected, a perfectionist.

But inside you feel lonely, you worry about everything all the time, you are tired and overwhelmed, you need reassurance: double checking, triple checking everything, you may even procrastinate and do your best work last minute, you dwell on unhelpful thoughts like whether your work is “good enough”.

High functioning anxiety is a hidden problem that many people experience silently, are less likely to get help or feel understood, managing life always on the verge of burnout. But you’re not alone. In fact, you’re among a generation of women who are crushing it in the workplace, in relationships, and in life in general, but also feeling the pressure of it all. I’m here to help.

You want to live your best life and feel fulfilled, confident, and balanced.
You don’t want to keep worrying, you don’t want to keep striving for perfection. You want connection, understanding, and peace of mind.
