So, What is Menstrual-Related Depression?

If you are a person with a uterus, you may be experiencing various physical and emotional symptoms during your menstrual cycle. Mood swings, bloating, irritability, and fatigue could impact your mental health in the lead-up to your period. It's like your feelings are on a unique schedule and your emotions sync up with your cycle. It’s like your emotions are taking an extra rollercoaster ride each month. These symptoms could align with premenstrual syndrome (PMS) or premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

PMS and PMDD, usually happens 1-2 weeks before menstruation, and the symptoms usually calm down when your period🩸 kicks in or shortly after. Then, it’s like a fresh start for the next cycle. If your feelings seem tangled up with your periods, this could be your experience.

Not sure if they line up? Start tracking your symptoms with a free app.

Picture PMS and PMDD as a spectrum: PMS offers subtle mood shifts, while PMDD brings intense emotional changes, low energy levels, and sensitivity. Even though PMS is milder, it can still disrupt your well-being. Understanding where you fall on this spectrum can shed light on your unique experiences.
